Online Multiplayer is not implemented in the game (Only Local Multiplayer). Jacob William Jervey who is in charge of the online networking stated in a blog post that he would like to implement Online Multiplayer into the game, but that it's development has not started.[1] The Developers of the game have explicitly stated that there is no guarantee that Online Multiplayer will ever be in the game.
Though at the moment it is not implemented, the developers of Cobalt (Oxeye Game Studio) have now announced that Online Multiplayer is to be Implemented in a future update. This information was released in a recent update in which one of the maps says
