Gameplay
Maps with the sur_ prefix are old survival mode maps. They can now be played in the "User maps" menu, where maps in your documents\cobalt\maps folder will appear.
In Waves Survival, your goal is to kill all the enemies in the "attack" before the timer (which is hidden unless there's not too many time left) runs out and not to die meanwhile.
In the old survival mode, players try to survive the increasingly stronger waves of enemies while trying to gain as many Volts as they can.
If you die, you're given the chance to restart the latest wave (a wave is a set of attacks).
There are four kinds of attacks:

* A normal attack, with just "average" enemies.
Gameplay
* A Raid Caller attack, in which you'll have to kill a certain enemy target before a short timer runs out, or suffer the consequences of one out of various kinds of raids.
In survival mode the levels often have a protected spawn with lockable doors, but in certain levels the doors cannot be locked. Some levels have no protected areas, thus leaving little time to buy and consider different weapons or items. Part of the difficulty of survival is that if the player doesn't act fairly quickly and often the enemies can build up and become virtually impossible to kill without being overwhelmed. A good solution to this is to toss some form of grenade or other throwable into the cluster and/or use an fully automatic or area-of-effect damage weapon.
* A "bodyguard" attack, in which you'll have to prevent the little Bopo brain from dying until the attack's end.
* A boss attack, in which you'll have to defeat a special enemy that is stronger or has more health than the average enemies.

In the beggining of every wave (while you're in the shop) you'll also be able to see what enemies will spawn during the attacks on that wave.
Loot
Killing enemies and accessing hard to reach locations i.e. the top of a tower, results in the player gaining loot. After acquiring it, players can convert all the loot collected from killing enemies to Volts at the Volt Converter.

This will also increase your score.

Buying Items
Shop
You can buy items with the Volts you collect to help you survive the increasingly difficult waves. There are various upgrades for each weapon, such as extended magazines and scopes.
Every time a wave is completed, the player will be teleported out of the map (same way players are teleported into the map every time a wave starts) and the "virtual" shop will appear. This shop includes three sections:
Additionally, a Nano shower can be used to repair the player at a cost of 5 Volts (by default).
* The hull section, where you'll be able to improve your character with better hull sets.
* The Gambling section, where you can buy one of the three items shown for each category (Weapons, Good Weapons, Throwables, Equipment and Supplies) or gamble to make a random free item appear (Note: the item in the top row will then dissapear).
* The Equipment section, where you'll be able to sell the items you already own.

Some levels are based on going back to the main hub where you spawn to purchase items, while others are more based on getting to specific areas in the map to get more advanced weapons and items. Some of these areas can be guarded or difficult to access.
Multiplayer
The Waves Survival gamemode can be played with more than one player at the same time.
Each player will have its own shop, and only one of the players is needed to stay alive to complete an attack/wave.
The difficulty of the attacks should also increase depending on the amount of players.
